We teach you, how to set up Thunderbird with Gmail. Your email server settings, applied to Mozilla Thunderbird, in a step by step guide with images and practical examples.
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free alternative to Outlook that can work in portable mode, that is, after installing it in a folder, you can move this folder anywhere and if you copy it, it will serve as a backup! This tutorial is also available for other devices like PC, Android, Mac and Iphone, just choose your option from our menu.
First you need to enable POP on Gmail
As an example, we created a fake user:
Name: Peter Smith
Email: petersmith@gmail.com
Password: **********
Replace our fake user info by your own name, email and password, and set up according to the images bellow
Download here a portable version of Mozilla Thunderbird
Install (you can use a pen drive) and run Thunderbird
If this is the first time you're running Thunderbird then a window should pop up to help you set up your email and that is where our tutorial starts.
If this is not the first time, then you should go to Menu hover over options (don't click it) and choose Account Settings. In Account Actions you can Add Mail Account.
Insert your data
Select POP3
Afterwards select Manual config
Double check your email server settings
Select Advanced config
Set the amount of messages to keep on server
Don't leave message copies on the server for more than 3 or 4 days, because the more you keep, the closer you get to your storage limit, resulting in errors that prevent sending and recieving emails (even if you delete them from Thunderbird).
